Babelsberg Studios: more than a century of cinema with sound absorption ready for the future

Located in Potsdam, just outside Berlin, Babelsberg Studios is considered one of the oldest and most prestigious film studio complexes in the world. Founded in 1912, it has witnessed more than a century of cinematic history and has hosted productions that have become part of the legacy of international filmmaking.
Its sound stages have been home to landmark productions such as Fritz Lang’s Metropolis, as well as major international films including The Matrix Resurrections, V for Vendetta, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Inglourious Basterds, The Bourne Supremacy, and Bridge of Spies. This remarkable track record has established Babelsberg as a global benchmark for technically demanding audiovisual productions.
A long-lerm commitment to acoustic quality
Since 2000, several sound stages at the studios have undergone acoustic treatment upgrades through the installation of InsulQuilt Platinum Blanket-Foil on walls and ceilings. In total, nearly 20,000 m² have been treated with acoustic absorption solutions specifically designed for large-scale audiovisual environments.
The objective of these improvements has been to optimize the acoustic quality of recording spaces by reducing unwanted reflections and enhancing reverberation control. Achieving the right reverberation time (RT60) is essential for cleaner recordings, improved speech intelligibility, and optimal acoustic conditions for both filming and post-production activities.
In addition, the solutions implemented have helped strengthen the sound insulation performance of the stages against external noise, creating controlled environments that allow productions to operate under the highest technical standards.
