What acoustic treatment solutions did we Implement?

Toboggan turned to Mas Acoustics after learning about the quality of the studios we have developed in recent years for Atresmedia, including projects such as La Voz, El Objetivo, La Ruleta de la Suerte, Espejo Público, and El Chiringuito. In all of these, we combined high-performance materials such as Insulquilt Platinum Blanket-Foil on the walls and broadband Stratocell Whisper absorbent panels suspended from ceilings, creating a comprehensive acoustic treatment system. This ensures a fully controlled studio acoustic environment with optimized reverberation control and clear, precise sound. This combination has proven especially effective for television studios and large sets, delivering top-level studio acoustics performance in every project.

Technical details of acoustic treatment for Toboggan’s new studios in Villaverde, Madrid

The project and our involvement

Toboggan Group, a leader in comprehensive technical services for the audiovisual industry in Spain, entrusted Mas Acoustics with designing and supervising five new studios in Villaverde, Madrid, focusing on acoustic treatment efficiency, sound optimization, and overall noise control. They sought not only isolation and soundproofing solutions but also specialized technical advice to support decision-making alongside architects and project managers.

From the initial meetings at the end of 2024, all key aspects of the project were defined: reverberation control, Deck roof design, HVAC systems, safety, and scheduling. The five studios cover a total of 9,000 m² with 17-meter ceilings, including 14 meters of clear height up to technical walkways, providing spaces suitable for large sets and complex productions.

Each studio includes technical walkways, production support areas, dressing rooms, makeup and wardrobe areas, coordination offices, and loading and logistics zones designed for large-scale productions. Advanced acoustic treatment, full studio acoustics design, and environmental noise control ensure optimal performance, allowing advertising, fiction, and technical production projects to meet the highest quality standards.

With this project, Toboggan Group reinforces its leadership in the Spanish audiovisual industry, while Mas Acoustics ensures the studios operate efficiently, with advanced acoustic treatment, high-level soundproofing, and optimized studio acoustics, ready for any production challenge.

Acoustic challenges and solutions implemented

Acoustic challenges in Toboggan’s Villaverde studios

The project presented several technical challenges. Many were addressed alongside the project management and Toboggan’s technical team, always considering budget constraints typical of large-scale projects. For Mas Acoustics, the main challenges involved the roof and walls, as well as the considerable height of the studios, requiring precise reverberation control and efficient acoustic treatment solutions. Thanks to our experience with large-scale projects, other technical decisions were made smoothly, ensuring consistent, high-quality studio acoustics results.

Initial assessment and diagnosis

Although the five studios were built in a relatively quiet area near Madrid, it was essential to supervise each layer of the roof and carefully plan the installation of materials. The large surface area to be covered with Insulquilt Platinum Blanket-Foil and Stratocell Whisper panels required precision to ensure a balanced studio acoustic environment, effective reverberation control, and exceptional sound quality in all spaces. Close collaboration with architects and installers was key to achieving a result that combines acoustic treatment efficiency and functionality in each studio.

Design of acoustic treatments

In Toboggan’s five studios, Insulquilt Platinum Blanket-Foil blankets completely cover the walls, providing professional acoustic treatment and soundproofing, ensuring a controlled and balanced environment. These blankets were directly attached to the concrete walls using Hilti fasteners, following compression tests and careful selection of the most appropriate fixing types.

For the Stratocell Whisper absorbent panels, a suspension system was used with steel cables tensioned over the Deck structure straps, forming a 120 x 120 x 5 cm grid evenly distributed across the ceiling, without interfering with visibility from technical walkways.

The combination of Insulquilt on the walls and the panels on the ceiling provides balanced sound absorption across the entire frequency spectrum, offering excellent reverberation control and top-level studio acoustics performance. Additionally, an artificial grass layer was installed on the roof to reduce water impact and resonance, further improving overall acoustic treatment efficiency.
